Tomb Raider – Secret of the Sword
Tomb Raider – Secret of the Sword
Tomb Raider, Secret of the Sword
Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword is looking its age, it has to be said. It’s worth a spin if you like a retro-feel though. We also have two of the latest games from the franchise starring the adventurer: Lara Croft: Temple and Tombs and Lara Croft: Tomb of the Sun, both from Triple Edge Studios.
Anyway, back to the second game in the series which was launched back in 2008. Would you believe it!
Lithe crime fighter extraordinaire Lara Croft is up to her usual tricks in the Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword slot, Games Global’s second outing with the famous jungle explorer and jewel hunter.
This short, treasure toting action-woman has a special place in my furry heart, thanks to a run-in a few years back in Morocco. She sure knows how to handle an old artefact! With a pistol in each hand and a passport full of stamps, Lara’s the kind of girl who doesn’t just raid tombs – she’s on the look out for hearts, fast bikes, reels, and the occasional jackpot.
The Basics
So, what could a smooth operator like me find in this second instalment of the Tomb Raider slot series to get the adrenaline, and cash flowing? I’m an explorer by trade, thrill-seeker by nature.
Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword has more than just a pneumatic poster girl; it offers Super Mode feature, Sticky Wilds and free spins. Oh yes, and a Global Adventure Bonus.
Game Graphics
Microgaming must have been wearing a blush of pride when this came out; the graphics of this game are crisper than cut glass, despite their classic vintage.
I mean, it’s not quite as impressive as newer games like the Wild Antics slot, but it has held up well.
Behind the reels there’s a stony temple wall, the perfect spot for some tantalising wall scaling.
The reels are plastered top to bottom with the heroic Lara in a catalogue of dramatic poses. It’s a Wombat’s Dream.
Tomb Raider Slot Play
Our action heroine’s top scoring stance shows her dangling from the edge of a building. Capture this Lara five times on an active pay-line and your wallet will grow to the tune of 5,000 coins. Lara hass three other high jinx icons in play.
A metallic Ace through 10 of the card deck are the low value symbols on the reels.
Lara’s determined face is the game’s Wild and brings a 250x boost to your wager, if you can get five on the reels. The Wild substitutes for all symbols except the Scatters- the route to the bigger action.
All in all, this is a pretty traditional game especially when you stand it next to something like Finn and the Candy Spin slot or any of Elk Studio’s finest. But it’s no worse for it- let’s just call it a classic, shall we?
Bonuses
At random, you could find yourself triggering Super Mode feature with five free spins. This makes a good surprise, a boon thanks to extra Sticky Wilds appearing on the reels for the duration of feature. Pretty tasty.
3, 4, or 5 of the emerald artefact scatter will unlock the Free Spins feature where 3x, 20x or 100x your wager wins are up for grabs.
Ten free games will roll into action but that’s not all. Any wins you make will result in the winning icons exploding away. A Rolling Reels mechanic cuts in with new icons settling into place to add to the win potential. And if your luck is in, each consecutive win you make boosts the multiplier up to 5x.
Then there’s the Global Adventure Bonus. You must land the passport Scatter on the mid-position of each of the reels. Each time you land a passport on the centre location of any of the reels, this game remembers. Land the final one and you’re jettisoned off on a worldwide cash caper.
A map will show Bolivia, London, Ghana, Nepal and Tokyo and each location has six artefacts to reveal. You pick locations and their goodies to unearth a treasure, a cash prize, a fragment of the Sword or a trap (two end the feature). A piece of the sword gives you access to the next city.
If you can collect six sword fragments you will win a hard-earned cash prize.
That, my friends, is the Secret of the Sword!

Monkey Verdict 3.8 out of 5 Bananas
The Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword slot has plenty of classic spice to keep you spinning for the cash. This adventurer couldn’t resist going for prizes as I toured world cities. This low variance slot classic still packs a punch.
