The Basics
A bunch of poor animals have been marooned on a desert island with nothing but a spinning tornado reels for company. The Graphics
As mentioned, the action in this game set on an island somewhere in the tropics. Shimmering blue sea, golden sand and swaying palm trees make up the backdrop to the game, while a bamboo frame keeps your reels from flying off during the impending storm. Quirky cartoon animals make up your characters including a walrus in a captain’s hat and a couple of bespectacled penguins wearing cardigans. Well, why not? Your soundtrack is the Blue Peter theme tune, better known as Barnacle Bill which fits perfectly with the mariner theme. All very jolly, I must say.
The Play
Blown Away slot has 5 reels, 3 rows and 25 paylines. Your stormy spins start at 25p to go up to a hurricane-sized £200 per go.
Your symbols on the reels are: a monkey wearing a canvas hat, a lizard doctor with a clipboard, the penguins, a goose holding a hand mirror and the 9, 10, J, Q, K & A playing cards as the low value symbols. The cheeky monkey symbol (so unbelievably typecast) is the most valuable symbol on the reels and will pay out 10x your bet for 5 in a row.
The Captain Walrus is your standard Wild in the game, and it can substitute for all of the other icons in the game to make extra combos for you. But, there’s also a Tornado wild icon which, when lands on reel 5, will create a gale-force special feature! More on that below.
Meanwhile, the Thunder Cloud is the Scatter icon and will land on appear on reels 1, 3 and 5 only.
The Bonuses
Blown Away slot game has two special features both if which can pay out a pretty penny.
Tornado Re-Spin Feature
Land a Tornado Wild on reel 5 and all hell breaks loose activating the Tornado Re-Spin Feature. The first time that it hits, it will remove all low-paying 9 icons from the reel away before giving you a re-spin. If you hit another Tornado symbol, it will take away the 10 symbols and so on. The respins and symbol removals continue as long as a new tornado wild appears. You could end up with a screen full of the same icon!
Free Spins Bonus
Land 3x, 4x or 5x of the Scatter symbols on the reels and you’ll get 10 free games. You’ll also scoop a cash prize of 5x, 25x or 150x your total bet respectively, which is not to be sniffed at!
During play, if a Tornado Wild hits, ALL of the playing deck cards will be removed (dragging an unsuspecting a cow along with them) making each new spin a whole lot more lucrative. The Wild will also increases the Cow Meter by x1 and can go all the way up to x7.
The Monkey Verdict
Fun, fun, fun. That’s what I had playing this squally little number. The Tornado Wild lands often enough to give you some decent re-spin payouts, and the theme is delightfully daft. Grab your galoshes! But don’t bother with an umbrella – it won’t last long in Blown Away slot.
